About
I taught myself to draw by coping cartoons and comic books. I studied advertising and spent the next twenty years working as an art director, graphic designer and illustrator. I moved to Portland, Oregon in 2001 and devoted my energy to studying the human form. My work in based on the figure and the cellular structure of plants. I create visceral studies and abstractions exploring on the connection between artist and subject.READ MORE

Umbilical and Choronzon Anne Stokes at the John Richard company has just added two pairings from the Objectify Series to their print collection. They join works from the Seeds Series and the Sketches collection. Many thanks to Anne. And thanks to Kira and Glass Olive for their help.

Small Things

Small acrylic painting by Daniel Liam Gill

Acrylic and colored pencil on Hardboard I’ve been working on a series of small pieces, 6″ x 6″ inches like the original Seeds. Something to lose myself in between working with models. These pieces are sizes from 4“x4” to 8“x10”. They are priced at $20.00 -$75.00 and can be purchased with cash or check.

Quiddity

Quiddity, Acrylic and Oil on Hardboard, 24" x 49"

Acrylic and Oil on Hardboard The last in my series with Glass Olive, the larger sizes. I took a break from painting to build a couple of web sites. This one stared at me from my wall for a couple of months. I would stand in front of it and feel like I was taking a journey, reminiscent of the Japanese tradition…

The Moirae

The Moirae, Acrylic and Oil on Hardboard

Acrylic and Oil on Hardboard I met a young lady who called herself Delirium after the character from Neil Gaiman’s The Endless. We created a few impressions, of which this is the third. It’s named for the Greek interpretation of the Fates, part of which is paraphrased here: The Moirae were supposed to appear three nights after…

Binah

Binah, Acrylic, Oil and Colored Pencil on Wood

Acrylic, Oil and Colored Pencil on Wood The second in my collaboration with Glass Olive. Like Choronozon before it, based on the writings of Aleister Crowley. Binah is ‘understanding’ or ‘contemplation’. It is likened to a ‘palace of mirrors’ that reflects the pure point of light of Chokhmah, wisdom, increasing and multiplying it in an infinite…

Refraction

Refraction, Acrylic on Harboard, 24" x 24"

Refraction, Acrylic on Hardboard, 24″ x 24″ Breaching the plane and expanding on the grid, I stacked Floofie, Delirium and Glass Olive into this composition, overlapping one on top of the other.
